Hi, I am the child of two people with compulsive buying/hoarding tendencies. Last night we got into a huge argument about how they don’t consider their house to be out of the ordinary when it comes to clutter. Please let me know if this reasoning makes sense to anyone else. I beg and plead with my mother to start making changes about her compulsive buying and never getting rid of items. For context: my parents are older my mother is nearly 60 and my dad is well into his 70s. I am an only child, the burden of dealing with all these items will fall onto me when they are gone. I am overwhelmed just being present in their household and can’t imagine how I will feel when it’s time to remove all these items. I know my point of view is self centered but I’m at the point where I feel alone in the issue. No other family members I’ve tried to talk to about the issue see a problem either, except one family friend who empathized with my feelings of being overwhelmed 😣
