🛁 Bathroom Maintenance 101: Keeping Mould, Damp & Damage Away
Bathrooms are the most moisture-heavy spaces in any home — and that means they’re magnets for mould, damp, and decay. But with a few quick weekly habits, you can prevent expensive damage and keep everything clean, dry, and healthy. Here’s how to master bathroom maintenance, even on a tight schedule. 🧽
🚿 1. Use Extractor Fans — Every Time
Always switch on your extractor fan before a bath or shower. Let it run for 10–15 minutes afterward to reduce condensation and mould risk.
🪟 2. Ventilate Daily
Open a window after every use if possible. Trapped moisture = trapped mould spores. Fresh air is your bathroom’s best friend.
🧼 3. Wipe Down Surfaces Weekly
Don’t wait for mildew. Use a microfiber cloth and mild anti-mould spray on tiles, taps, and shower walls. Especially important in corners and around the tub sealant.
🔍 4. Check Grout and Sealant
Discoloured or cracked grout? It lets water in behind the tiles. Reseal or re-grout small areas yourself or call a pro for full repairs.
🚫 5. Keep Shampoo Bottles Dry
Storage baskets or holders keep product bottles from sitting in standing water — which breeds mould and causes slimy residue.
💧 6. Fix Drips Quickly
Even a tiny drip from a tap or toilet can increase humidity and promote limescale. Report or repair as soon as you spot it.
🧴 7. Clean Your Shower Curtain & Mat
Wash fabric curtains weekly or use mildew-resistant liners. Bath mats should be aired after every use and machine-washed regularly.
👃 8. Watch for Musty Smells
If your bathroom smells damp even after cleaning, check behind the toilet, under the sink, or behind cabinets. It could indicate hidden mould or a leak.
🧹 9. Keep Clutter Minimal
The more items stored in the bathroom, the harder it is to clean. Only keep what you use daily — less clutter = easier upkeep.
🏆 10. Stick to a Maintenance Routine
Pick a regular cleaning day (e.g., Sundays) and follow a quick checklist. A consistent habit saves time and avoids problems later.
