With just one week to go until the return of Rivals, cast member Danny Dyer is lifting the lid on one of season two’s most anticipated scenes.

In the second half of season two, Danny’s character Freddie Jones continues his affair with Katherine Parkinson’s Lizzie Vereker.

At one point, the pair are almost caught in the act, prompting Freddie to have to do what Rivals has described as a “naked flit out”.

“You just sort of get on with it,” Danny said when asked about the shooting of this scene. “The hardest bit is laying in a bath all day and going wrinkly, do you know what I mean? It wasn’t the biggest bath in the world but I thought it was quite cute.”

He continued: “It gets a bit farcical in the end, and they had to put the bubbles in a good place, but they didn’t show the bit when I climb out the window, thank you Lord above! I don’t think anybody wants to see a 50-year-old man swinging his old arse out of a window.”

“But, yeah, we both had hands of 110-year-olds when we got out the bath, so not the most attractive,” he continued.

Danny also enthused: “I love working with Katherine, she is fucking amazing, and I love Lisa [McGrillis, who plays Freddie’s wife Valerie] as well.

“I’ve said this before but I’m very grateful to be in Rivals and very lucky to be surrounded by the best of the best actors – and that’s across the board.”

As for the predicament Freddie finds himself in throughout the second half of season two, Danny agreed that it’s a “complicated” situation, but insisted that “it should be complicated”.

“It’s complicated because it’s people in their late 40s finding their soulmate, but they’re already married with children,” he said. “So like, what do you do?

“You’re only here once, do you just stay in the marriage and not break people’s hearts, or do you break your own heart? That’s the question.”

Earlier this year, the former EastEnders star teased that he had a “full frontal” scene coming up in Rivals, stating: “Nobody’s under pressure to be naked if they don’t want to, but if a woman’s getting her breasts out, why shouldn’t I get it all out?”

“I’ve got breasts as well, to be fair,” he then joked.

Rivals returns to Disney+ with three new episodes on Wednesday 11 November, followed by three more weekly instalments.
